Toyota celebrated 20 years of having arrived in Mexico . Since 2002, the Japanese company has invested around 1,400 million dollars in our country and has positioned itself as one of the most important brands in the Mexican market.
Guillermo Díaz, president of Toyota Motor Sales and Lexus de México, recalled that the first vehicle of the brand that was marketed in Mexican territory was the Camry . Currently, the company ranks fourth in sales in Mexico , with about 1.3 million units sold until March of this year and a market share of 9.4%. In addition, it generates about 11,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“Today, 20 years later, we have 18 models. We have one of the most comprehensive business offerings in the industry. In addition, our greatest contribution to the country has been the opening of the electrification market; Currently, we have five electric hybrid vehicles. We were the pioneers, today we are leaders”, he said during the celebration held at the Interactive Museum of Economy in Mexico City.
Toyota 's positioning is not only due to its portfolio of quality products and customer service, but also to the consolidation of its two manufacturing plants in Mexico.
The first factory – Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Baja California – began operations in 2004. Given the good results generated in the Mexican automotive industry, the company opened its second plant in 2020 – Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Guanajuato –, in which they initially invested 700 million dollars to increase production of the Tacoma pickup, a high-quality vehicle that meets the demand of the domestic and North American markets.
“We can share that we have two manufacturing plants, one in Guanajuato and the other in Baja California, where we have produced more than 1.7 million Tacomas since the beginning of operations, of which 90% are exported to the North American market” , highlighted Marisol Blanco, senior manager of Communications, Public Relations and Social Responsibility for all Toyota operations in Mexico.
THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
Marisol Blanco said that throughout these 20 years they have worked on their commitment to the environment and, therefore, have promoted the commercialization of electric vehicles in the country, which reflects their commitment to the future of sustainable mobility.
Likewise, to date, they have invested more than 60 million pesos in social responsibility programs.
“Today, 20 years after our arrival in the country, we begin a new stage in which we will work more with diversity, inclusion and gender parity. These first 20 years are just the beginning of a great story of transformation towards sustainable mobility in this country”, he assured.
