The competitive advantages of South Texas in attracting new investments were showcased at the Business Facilities LiveXchange event in Virginia, USA. This platform serves as a key player in real estate development and investment attraction.

Rick Carrera, Director of Economic Development at The Council for South Texas Economic Progress, met with industry leaders from 20 different regions across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The interest of the industry in learning about what South Texas has to offer was evident, noted Carrera, with workforce strength, logistics, manufacturing expertise, and immediate connectivity to Mexico being some of the standout aspects.

Business Facilities LiveXchange also served as a networking opportunity, facilitating the creation of new contacts. Attendees learned about Costep's representation in seven counties in South Texas: Webb, Willacy, Jim Hogg, Zapata, Starr, Hidalgo, and Cameron. "Our participation in the event streamlined many relationships that would have taken months to build. We generated new contacts, including those in the medical devices, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing industries," Carrera commented.

Economic Growth

Additionally, Carrera highlighted the arrival of the first company at the new industrial park being constructed within the Port of Brownsville as an example of the economic development prosperity in the region. He also announced that Costep will continue to attend various events, meetings, and forums in Mexico and the United States to contribute to the achievement of objectives. "Costep is an organization that will always seek to strengthen the economic development of these seven Texas counties and the border we share with Mexico," he concluded.
