Draxton announces the creation of the Direction of Engineering, Research and Global Development

Aiming to accelerate its transformation process, increase its competitiveness and adapt productive process to their customers’ demands, Draxton announced the creation of the Direction of Engineering, Research and Global Development.

 GIS said that in order to face future changes within the automotive industry and serve more than 100 customers in different markets, technologies and materials, Draxton gives a step forward in technology, research and development worldwide.

Draxton is the auto-parts business from GIS, dedicated to the codesign, foundry and machining of gray and nodular iron auto-parts, as well as of aluminum for engines, break systems, powertrain and chassis, present in six countries of America (Mexico,) Europe (Spain, Italy, Poland and Czech Republic) and Asia (China.)

 Every year Draxton addresses 7 million dollars to processes related with research and development, what represents about 1 % on its sales.

In this sector are grouped expenses and investments related with key development areas: smart plant, processes and technology, products and tooling, materials and environment.

 It is estimated that in the upcoming years this investment could be duplicated to 2 % of incomes to align technical and operative capabilities to trends, technology and emerging materials for the automotive industry.

 The new Global Direction of Engineering, Research and Development of Draxton, with venue in Boroa, Spain, will be focused in promoting operative excellence, enable capabilities of designs and research and development, as well as promoting the development of talent.

 This new position will be in charge of Jose Manuel Corrales, Draxton executive with more than 30 years of career in the automotive industry and who performs as director of the European company ACE, acquired by GIS in 2015, and that as of April this year integrated to Draxton.

 Jose Manuel Arana, general director of GIS, said that “the final result of such plan will be the development of products and high value added processes.”

“Our Technology Plan pretends to establish an acting framework that allows the global development in medium and long term, anticipating to our customers’ needs and collaborating in the design of automotive parts,” he ended.
