Coahuila adds US$115 million investment with new Yokohama plant
May 22, 2026
Japanese company Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. announced the construction of a new tire plant for heavy machinery in Saltillo, Coahuila, as part of its global expansion strategy in the Off-Highway Tires (OHT) segment. The project includes an investment of US$115 million and will strengthen Mexico’s manufacturing capacity within the North American supply chain.
The new facility will be part of the second development phase of an industrial complex where the company is already building a plant focused on tires for passenger vehicles. With this expansion, Mexico consolidates itself as a strategic platform for the production of specialized tires aimed at high-value industrial and agricultural sectors.
Saltillo will concentrate production for mining, construction and agriculture
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 10,650 tons of tires, calculated by rubber weight. From Saltillo, Yokohama will manufacture tires for mining, construction and agricultural machinery, segments that continue to see growing demand in the North American market.
The project will also allow the company to transfer to Mexico part of the agricultural tire production that was previously carried out in Spartanburg, United States. In addition, Yokohama will integrate into this new operation a portion of OTR tire production that had previously been outsourced to Goodyear, following Yokohama’s acquisition of that business in 2025.
The company seeks to strengthen its global manufacturing network, increase operational efficiency and improve response times for its customers in North America. The decision also reflects Mexico’s growing importance as a destination for industrial projects linked to advanced manufacturing and regional supply chains.
Mexico gains strategic weight in Yokohama’s global network
According to the company, construction of the plant will begin during the third quarter of 2026, while the start of operations is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028. The industrial complex will drive new economic opportunities and greater manufacturing activity in the southeastern region of Coahuila.
The arrival of this investment reinforces Saltillo’s position as one of Mexico’s main industrial hubs, particularly in sectors related to automotive, auto parts and heavy manufacturing. Yokohama’s expansion also strengthens the presence of international companies that use Mexico as a production center to supply the North American market.
