Abbott announced the continuation of its MXN 3.5 billion investment project for the construction of its new facility in Querétaro, a project expected to generate 1,200 direct jobs by 2030 and expand the company’s medical device production capacity in Mexico. The first stage of the facility was inaugurated last January.

During the announcement, Edgar Romero, Country Manager EP North Latam MX, COL, PR and ACCA Region at Abbott, said the company will strengthen its presence in the country through a new plant focused on the manufacturing of medical devices used in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders.

“Today, we are making Abbott’s MXN 3.5 billion investment project and 1,200 direct jobs by 2030 a reality.”

Abbott is a global healthcare company with operations in areas such as diagnostics, nutrition and medicines. The company has operated in Mexico since 1934 and currently employs around 1,400 people, in addition to having a plant and offices in Mexico City.

The new facility in Querétaro will focus on the production of medical devices to address conditions such as atrial fibrillation, a condition that can affect patients’ quality of life if it does not receive proper treatment.

The complex will have a surface area of 20,000 square meters and will include space for future industrial expansions. According to the company, Querétaro was selected due to factors such as the availability of specialized talent, proximity to universities and the state’s industrial infrastructure.
