Swedish company Scania México announced the opening of a new macro branch of more than 30,000 square meters in the municipality of García, Nuevo León. The strategic project, located along the Periférico and Lincoln corridor, will begin operations in November of this year.

The announcement was made in Stockholm during Governor Samuel García’s working tour of Sweden, where he held a meeting with Christian Levin, President and CEO of Traton Group, the consortium that owns Scania and International, with the objective of increasing investments and evaluating a future expansion at the production plant they operate in Escobedo.

With the García project, the company will generate 50 direct jobs and a similar number of indirect positions. Alejandro Mondragón, CEO of Scania México, detailed that this infrastructure seeks to strengthen the company’s freight and passenger transport solutions, consolidating its more than 30 years of presence in the country.

“At Scania México, we see in Nuevo León a vision that is very aligned with our growth in the country: long-term development, innovation and sustainable mobility. We are very excited to continue strengthening our presence in the state,” Mondragón said.

Regarding the alliance with Traton Group, the state governor advanced plans for the northern area of the metropolitan region. “They already have a very large investment in Escobedo of US$800 million, they are going to carry out an expansion, and we agreed to meet very soon in Nuevo León for Scania and International Trucks projects,” the governor explained.

The Swedish consortium brings together global brands such as Scania, MAN Truck & Bus, International Motors and Volkswagen Truck & Bus.

Currently, the group’s assembly plant in Escobedo, Nuevo León, is considered Navistar’s largest in the world, operating with a workforce of 6,200 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs.

The complex, which exports mainly to the United States and Canada, houses production of the International eMV Series, the only 100% battery-electric truck in Mexico.
