Swedish group Volvo, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks, is entering the final stretch to begin manufacturing operations in the municipality of Ciénega de Flores, Nuevo León, where it will consolidate a US$1 billion investment for the production of next-generation units for the North American market.

Following the conclusion of Nuevo León authorities’ working tour in Stockholm, it was confirmed that the industrial megacomplex, projected to be the corporation’s largest worldwide, has completed its main civil works stage and entered the technical testing phase for machinery and industrial equipment.

The new plant includes a development of more than 200,000 square meters focused on the production of units under the Volvo Trucks and Mack Trucks brands, with the capacity to strengthen specialized heavy-duty transport manufacturing in Mexico.

With this opening, the company projects the creation of 2,500 direct jobs in northern Nuevo León, in addition to significant economic impact through suppliers and supply chains linked to the manufacturing and logistics sectors.

According to reports from the state delegation in Sweden, the plant began equipment installation and testing activities in April, with the aim of imminently releasing its first production lines.

“It is already built. Testing began in April, and they are about to start producing world-class, top-level trucks. This US$1 billion investment is now truly tangible in Ciénega de Flores,” Governor Samuel García detailed.

The operation of this plant is part of Nuevo León’s industrial expansion strategy in advanced manufacturing, automation and specialized transportation, taking advantage of its proximity to the United States and the regional integration of supply chains.

As part of the same trade agenda, the state delegation held a working session with Ericsson’s global executives in Stockholm to promote advanced digital infrastructure and the expansion of 5G networks in the state.

The strategy seeks to strengthen industrial connectivity to support automated operations, smart manufacturing and digital ecosystems installed around the outskirts of the Monterrey metropolitan area.

Next-generation connectivity will make it possible to optimize industrial processes, real-time data exchange and automation capabilities for companies linked to manufacturing, logistics and heavy-duty freight transportation.
